Let Yourself Bubble Out

 Let your yourself bubble out

I recently took our daughter to watch the Off-Broadway production of ‘The Gazillion Bubble Show’ at New World Stages. I can safely say, it’s definitely not false advertising. There were bubbles by the GAZILLION!

Our daughter is 1.5 years old and my friends’ son who also attended is 2 years old. Watching them experience this wild show was awesome - and inspiring! They literally couldn’t contain their excitement - and didn’t for a second feel they SHOULD. They were screaming and dancing and their limited vocabularies were popping out all sorts of enthusiastic gibberish.

I’m sure we’ve all witnessed a child in this sort of environment. It’s so innocent. It’s so unselfaware. It’s so unrestricted. It’s so honest and so PURE!

Trust me when I say that when they introduced LAZERS to the bubble show ten minutes before the end, my child may as well have been at a rave. She popped ALL THE WAY OFF.

Mouth open cheering, stomping her feet, shaking her head from side to side and waving her arms. The music and atmosphere penetrated her soul and her joy was lifting out of her like an exorcism drawing it into the space.

I share this story as a simple reminder that we ALL used to be that free to express ourselves. AND, we all still hold the potential to express ourselves just as freely now that we’re fully grown children. The only thing holding you back is you. Yes, we behave in a manner that is respectful in society and considerate of those around us and is polite and a lot of the time we shrink ourselves in order to stay safe in a city like NYC, and I’m not for a second suggesting you behave like my daughter at her mini rave when you’re simply on the subway, BUT, when you find yourself in an environment where it’s safe to express yourself anyway you please - like, I don’t know, maybe in AN ACTING CLASS(!!!!!) then give yourselves PERMISSION to go all the way in. LET yourself have fun.

You deserve to fully express yourself in a way that is unselfaware, unrestricted and free. As your acting teacher I will encourage you to go there but the only person who can fully allow it is you.

Now take a second to actually consider how amazing a single bubble is. Picture one now. It’s fantastic isn’t it? So COOL! Now multiply that by a gazillion and you’ve reminded yourself how utterly incredible our world and everything in it can be, if we choose to look at it a certain way.

Keep up the great work!
