Embracing Change
Change is rarely comfortable. Even when it’s something we want, it often arrives wrapped in uncertainty, vulnerability, and a healthy dose of self-doubt. It asks us to leave behind what is familiar and step into territory we can’t fully predict. Yet, when I look back on my life, I realize that every meaningful chapter began with a willingness to embrace change.
I was born on a farm in North Wales. As a child, the world felt small, defined by fields, livestock, and a close-knit community. It was a wonderful place to grow up, but if you’d told that young boy where life would eventually take him, he probably wouldn’t have believed you.
Today, I own a home in New Jersey and have a family of my own. The distance between those two realities is measured in far more than miles. It represents countless decisions, risks, and moments of uncertainty. Moving countries, building a career, creating a home, and establishing roots in a completely different place all required embracing change, even when it felt uncomfortable.
None of it happened overnight. And none of it happened without challenges. There were times when I questioned whether I was making the right choices. Times when I missed what was familiar (I still miss the UK a lot). Times when I felt completely out of my depth. That’s the vulnerable side of change that people don’t always talk about. Growth often comes with moments of discomfort.
But alongside those challenges came opportunities I never could have predicted. New friendships. New experiences. New perspectives. The chance to build a life that would have been impossible if I had stayed exactly where I started.
That’s why I’ve come to see change differently. Instead of viewing it as something to fear, I try to see it as an invitation. An invitation to learn, adapt, and discover parts of ourselves we didn’t know existed. Change expands our world if we’re willing to let it. Mark Evans Studio was a dream that I never really entertained as a possibility until three years ago and if I’d have listened to the voice of doubt, the studio wouldn’t exist today.
Change can also be very uncomfortable within your acting work. It takes bravery to acknowledge the truth behind certain blocks or resistances that come up. That’s where the growth comes in and it’s really important.
All of these thoughts are coming to me at this moment because for my husband and I, another huge change is on the horizon. This August, we will welcome our baby boy into the world.
I know this will be one of the biggest adjustments of our lives. We have to be willing to let go of the version of life we have right now and embrace all the amazing and challenging things to come.
Just as every major change before it has shaped who I am today, this new chapter will shape who I become next.
If life has taught me anything, it’s that growth doesn’t happen by standing still. It happens when we have the courage to embrace change, even when we don’t know exactly where it will lead. Looking back, every significant opportunity in my life started with a step into the unknown.
I encourage each of you to not be afraid of doing that too,
Keep up the great work
Mark :)
